Felt Stuffed Trees

Get started on your holiday decorations early this year by creating a forest of Kunin® Felt Stuffed Trees to celebrate Christmas in July!  Quick and easy to make in just about 30 minutes with just a little bit of sewing.  Stuff with soft Poly-Fil® to create a one of a kind gift for family and friends!

STEP ONE

I always start off with a sketch, because putting an idea down on paper allows me to make notes and add colors to finalize a project outline.  Once it is on the page then my creative mind can move on to the next idea!

STEP TWO

Using Dark Chocolate acrylic craft paint, and basecoat the wooden dowels.  For rustic appearance wipe off some of the paint, before it dries, with a paper towel.  Set aside to dry.

Select a drill bit the same diameter as your wooden dowel and drill a hole in the center of each tree branch slice with a cordless drill.

STEP THREE

Download, print and cut out KUNIN FELT STUFFED TREES PATTERNS.  Trace each pattern twice onto Kunin® Classics™ Felt Craft Cuts with a permanent marker and then cut out with scissors.  I used Kelly Green, Olive and Apple Green for a homey touch.  For a modern look, use just one color.

Select contrasting shades of green embroidery floss for a homey look, layer the felt shapes and blanket stitch the edges.  I used all six strands of floss and started from the center of each tree base.  For a modern look, use embroidery floss that matches the felt.

STEP FOUR

Since these trees have some small nooks and crannies, I stuff with Poly-Fil® as I stitch.  Perfect for this type of application because Poly-Fil® can be pulled apart to stuff even the smallest of areas.  Continue stitching and stuffing each of the three trees.

To finish each tree, carefully insert the wooden dowel in the center of the base of each tree and finish with a few stitches on either side, to secure.  This creates the tree trunks.

STEP FIVE

Once all three (or more) trees are stitched and stuffed, insert the wooden dowel into the drilled hole in the tree branch slice.  Add a dot of glue inside the hole if you would like the tree to be inserted in the base permanently.

I hope you will use my Kunin Felt Stuffed Trees project as a jumping off point to showcase your Kunin Creativity and create some fun and colorful home décor for the Christmas Season!  Switch up the colors to match YOUR home’s décor, the possibilities are endless!  Create a thoughtful gift by tying on a gift card.
